Chiranjeevi says 'no' to Left’s power-sharing idea

The actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam party on Friday rejected the power- sharing formula proposed by the CPI and made it clear it will not be a part of any alliance being planned by left parties to defeat the ruling Congress in next year’s polls.

“We do not subscribe to this idea,” quipped Praja Rajyam spokesman P Prabhakar here when asked about state CPI secretary K Narayana’s proposal that Telugu Desam party and Praja Rajyam could work out a formula that allows them to share power for two-and-half years each if the opposition alliance is voted to power in Andhra Pradesh.

During an interaction with media in Mahaboobnagar district on Thursday, Narayana, who is in the forefront of efforts to forge an alliance of non-Congress and non-BJP parties had proposed that a nominee of Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) could be given deputy Chief Minister’s post. He had also indicated that CPI could join the government in future.

Making light of the proposal, the Praja Rajyam spokesman said though his outfit was not averse to electoral tie-ups with like-minded parties, there was no question of sharing power with anyone.

Asserting that the newly launched party was fully prepared to face elections whenever they come, Prabhakar said, “Chiranjeevi will unveil its policies and programmes concerning every section of society during the state-tour commencing on October 9”.
